Secret Soviet Bunker
The Secret Soviet bunker beneath Skalupes, near Līgatne in Latvia, is a remarkably well-preserved Cold War-era underground complex originally built for the Communist political elite. Concealed under the facade of the Ligatne Rehabilitation Centre (also known as a sanatorium or spa), it was planned in the late 1960s and became operational around 1982. Constructed to accommodate up to 250 high‑ranking party officials for three months of isolation, the bunker spans nearly 2,000 m² underground, shielded beneath meters of concrete, steel, and lead.
